Work environment compass

Psychosocial work environment from paper obligations to practice

From 2026, expectations for systematic documentation are clearer. Soniver helps managers and HR build an ongoing mapping foundation from every 1:1 conversation.

What was clarified in 2026?

From 1 January 2026, section 4-3 of the Norwegian Working Environment Act became clearer on what employers must actually address in the psychosocial work environment. The duty is not new, but expectations for systematic follow-up are more concrete.

What is different now is that the law explicitly covers the full breadth of psychosocial risk factors, and makes visible what the undertaking must prevent and follow up in practice, including (1) roles and expectations, (2) emotional strain, (3) work pressure, and (4) access to support at work.

“In principle, the statutory provision will cover all factors relevant to the psychosocial work environment.”

How the work environment compass helps you as a manager

Continuous mapping in every 1:1. What you do with the signals is your responsibility as a manager.

Reads the conversation against the law

Soniver listens to each 1:1 and recognises when the conversation touches section 4-3: unclear demands, emotional strain, workload, and support.

Connects the signal to the law

When something in the conversation meets a legal requirement, you get a flag that explains what was picked up and which provision it relates to. You are reminded of the duty in the moment, without having to look it up.

A trail that stands up to review

All flags are collected per manager, conversation by conversation. You see patterns over time, can show what you did with the signals, and have documentation ready when it is needed.

How we flag deviations

Soniver captures signals early. That gives managers and HR time to act preventively before issues grow.

Step 1

Signal captured in the conversation

Soniver listens for patterns in language and content—for example persistent time pressure, low support, or unclear expectations.

Summary
Work Environment Compass

The conversation reveals several legal deviations. The manager repeatedly prioritizes short-term deliveries over the employee’s expressed concerns about health and workload.
